How to Use Photo Analyze
Snap a plate for calories, or a fridge for ingredients.
Photo Analyze has two modes: Meal, which estimates calories and macros for what's on your plate, and Fridge, which identifies ingredients from a photo of what's in front of you.
Step by step
- 1
Choose a mode
Pick Meal to analyze a plated meal, or Fridge to identify ingredients from a fridge or pantry photo.
- 2
Upload a photo
Drag and drop an image onto the upload area, or use Browse to pick a file. Accepted formats are JPEG, PNG and WebP, and the file must be under 10 MB.
- 3
Analyze
Tap Analyze. In Meal mode you'll get an itemized breakdown of each food item with calories, protein, carbs and fat, plus a total for the whole plate. In Fridge mode you'll get the ingredients it recognized.
- 4
Start over
Use Change to swap in a different photo without leaving the page.
Free vs. Pro limits
The free plan includes a daily analysis limit; reaching it shows an upgrade prompt. Signed-in Pro has a separate daily limit that resets at midnight UTC.
Tips
- If a photo doesn't upload, check the format and size first — anything other than JPEG/PNG/WebP, or over 10 MB, is rejected before analysis even starts.
- Switch to Fridge mode when you want ingredient ideas rather than a calorie count — What to Cook can take that ingredient list directly.
Frequently asked questions
What image formats are accepted?
JPEG, PNG and WebP.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes — 10 MB. Larger files are rejected with an error before upload.
How accurate is the calorie estimate?
It's an AI estimate from a photo, not a lab measurement — treat it as a reasonable guide rather than an exact figure, especially for mixed or hidden ingredients.
