Gordon Ramsay
🇬🇧 United Kingdom · British cuisine · b. 1966
Scotland's most famous chef and the world's most-watched culinary television personality.
Biography
Gordon Ramsay is a Scottish-born British chef and restaurateur who runs one of the most commercially successful restaurant groups in the world. Trained under Marco Pierre White at Harveys and Joël Robuchon and Guy Savoy in Paris, he opened Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, London, in 1998. It earned three Michelin stars in 2001 and has held them ever since — making Ramsay one of only a handful of British chefs ever to achieve and retain three stars.
Beyond the restaurant kitchen he is the most globally recognised chef on television, fronting Hell's Kitchen, MasterChef US, Kitchen Nightmares, Hotel Hell and 24 Hours to Hell and Back. His group operates more than 35 restaurants across the UK, US, France, Italy, the UAE, Singapore and Hong Kong, with cuisines ranging from modern French at his flagship to British pub food at The Narrow.
Despite his television persona's volcanic temper, peers consistently describe him as a relentlessly disciplined technician with deep classical French training.
Cooking Philosophy
Classical French technique applied with British produce and pragmatism. Ramsay drills into his cooks that the foundations — stock, seasoning, knife skills, sauce making — never go out of fashion. Innovation is fine, but only after you've mastered the basics.
